The Voyage of the Odd Essay is a journal about a journey, from an idea, to a plan, to a round the world trip.
There is an introduction in the First Blog Entry.
Since starting this blog, other plans have come up and so while driving around the worlds is firmly still on the cards as a long term life ambition, the opportunity to backpack around South East Asia, scattered with some random trips around Europe can’t be ignored, Travel is still the end results, but the hows and whys are evolving.
Summer and Autumn 2008 will be full of randomness, all leading up to heading out on a six month back packing tour starting in Thailand, and then meandering where ever the road leads.
Looking further ahead, 2009 or even mid 2008 I will be looking at South America, Indian or Australia if everything pans out. Or at least, that’s the plan today. Tomorrow, maybe someone will tell me a story or make an invitation that will change my path once again.
Rugged Gadgets and Equipment
I love rugged gadgets. By that I mean things that are more waterproof, dust proof or drop proof then regular items. A part of this is paranoia, part of this is a response to breaking my phone and soaking my notebook though within the first couple of days of my first tip abroad to Thailand, but really I just love gadgets and the first two reasons give me an excuse to buy some fancy equipment built to last and fun to play with.
Time will tell if this is a great idea, or just a waste of money.
Adverts, Sponsorships and Affiliate Links
Around the site you’ll see a few adverts and affiliate links here and there, which hopefully don’t intrude on the design and distract from the actual content, mostly I’m trying to focus on using direct referral links for items I specifically mention but the over all intention is for them to general a modest amount of revenue from the site.
Once I start traveling these ads and links will be my primary source of income, and all the money goes first towards covering hosting costs, and then to further my travels a little bit longer by supplementing my savings so I don’t have to go home quiet as soon.
All the items I review I have purchased myself, with my own money, for my own use. If anyone does want to send me items to review, I’ll happily accept them, but will always expressly mention that I have received them as review items.
No one is paying me to travel, or write this blog in any other way, I’m writing because I love doing it, it’s a way for people back home to keep up with me, and hopefully other people traveling the same places as I have can find some useful information. Making a little on the side to travel longer is just a bonus.
If you do find any of the ads intrusive or inappropriate, please let me know.
If you do find the information useful and want to say thanks come and find me and buy me a Singha! (You know I’m 100% serious, right?)
